Therapists!!

Boy Wonder went to sleep very late last night and as a consequence needed to be woken up this morning. He was very high on waking and difficult to kept on task. He wasn't aware of the impact of yesterday and Car Girl being unsettled around him this morning.

We got to school and I spoke with his teacher regarding the escalation of the incident last night. I explained that I would be talking to his Doctors today for advice and she agreed to use Boy Wonder's morning time to talk through what happened yesterday. Boy Wonder's needs and management of incidents would also be discussed in the staff meeting this evening.

I went off to work and made a few phone calls throughout the day and received some very welcomed support. Boy Wonder's ADHD consultant stated that the description of the incident sounded very much like uncontrolled ADHD symptoms and we spoke about other matters that tied in with this. For example the increase in impulsivity and hyperactivity over the past few weeks. She requested that his ADHD medication is increased immediately and reviewed in a week's time. Superman collected the prescription in the afternoon to start tomorrow.

Boy Wonder's Psychiatrist was unable to bring the appointment forward from December but offered a duty worker if required or if the situation escalates further. I explained the input from his paediatrician and stated that we would see  how things go and call if we needed to.

The art therapist rang this afternoon and wasn't able to change the appointment slot as previously requested by Boy Wonder. We booked a review for next week and discussed briefly the recent difficulties. He was quite surprised but more surprises when I explained the very obvious reduction in anxiety levels after a session of art therapy. He agreed there and then that we would continue if the outcome was so positive.

Finally I spoke with the O.T who sounds fabulous. They are hoping to start work at the end of the month.  And then the day went pear shaped......

I got stuck at work due to an urgent meeting so Superman had to finish early and do the school pick up and clubs. He seemed like he got it all done with little fuss.

Later this evening Boy Wonder spent  hours studying his Minecraft book and although he was thrashing about a bit, he seemed okay.
